Crowd gets up when band gets down
NATICK, Mass. -- The 389th Army Band (AMC’s own) surprised the town of Natick and members of the
Soldier Systems Center community when they stepped out of the role of a traditional military band
at a concert on the town common Sept. 9.
After some expected numbers, the tunes took a turn during a segment with songs from Broadway shows
and then the audience was up on its feet, dancing and participating during crowd-pleasing favorites
such as “YMCA” and “La Bamba.” Members of the band donned costumes for “YMCA” bringing smiles and
laughs from the crowd.
After some closing patriotic numbers, Dick Cugini, Parks and Recreation Director for the town of
Natick, thanked the band for playing. He said that it was a “super performance” and the
“highlight” of the town’s summer concert series.
Cugini continued by saying that he thought everyone really enjoyed the show and invited the band
back to perform again next year.
The town of Natick and the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center co-hosted the event.
